A well-maintained and efficient infrastructure is crucial for Minooka’s growth and quality of life. I recognize the concerns of residents regarding the use of semis on regular roads and am committed to addressing this issue. I will advocate for solutions that balance the tax benefits of local warehouses with the desire to keep our residential streets safe and accessible. This may include exploring alternative routes for freight traffic, improving road infrastructure, or implementing regulations that better manage truck traffic. Ensuring that our transportation system supports both the community and economic activities is a priority. I strongly support the legal actions taken against CN by the village to enforce weight restrictions on our roads. I echo the community’s sentiment that the significant increase in semi truck traffic by the CN project would be a detriment to our community, as no tax dollars from CN will come to the Village of Minooka to maintain the roads they intend to use. Instead tax revenue would all go to Channahon. I will also work with the Minooka Police Department to ensure we have strong enforcement of our traffic rules.
I believe small businesses are the backbone of our community. As a local business owner myself, I understand the challenges and opportunities that come with running a business. I will work to create an environment where small businesses can thrive by advocating for policies that support economic growth, ensuring that resources are available to help businesses succeed, and working to ensure that communication between the village board and our businesses is clear, concise, and welcoming to new opportunities. I am committed to promoting local shopping and encouraging initiatives that boost our local economy.
I was a vocal supporter at our village board meetings for adding data center zoning to Minooka, and I’m proud to say it passed. As Trustee, I will continue to champion opportunities like this that bring infrastructure development and high-paying jobs to our community. Data centers, in particular, offer substantial benefits such as building high-speed fiber optic connectivity for themselves. My goal would be to use state grants to expand that access for residents and businesses. Fiber optic internet in Minooka will bring greater access for families and businesses, increase innovation with existing providers, and be of great benefit to all of our residents, and I’m strongly in support of getting our residents access to fiber optic internet. Data Centers do not bring the same emissions, truck traffic, or other issues a lot of other large-scale enterprise does, making them a great candidate to have in our community. Josh advocated for the residents of Minooka at a public proposal on January 23rd, read about it in the Patch.
Our youth are the future of Minooka, and investing in their development is crucial. I will work to support local schools, after-school programs, and youth organizations that provide educational and recreational opportunities. By encouraging mentorship programs and partnerships with local businesses, we can prepare our young people for successful careers and engaged citizenship.
Protecting our natural environment is crucial for the health and well-being of our community. I support initiatives that safeguard our parks, waterways, and green spaces, always considering their impact on both residents and local businesses. I believe in sustainable development and practical recycling programs but will carefully assess any environmental proposals to ensure they don’t hinder our community’s growth or economic vitality. A balanced approach allows us to maintain a healthy environment without compromising the needs and interests of our residents. I support the Village of Minooka’s Solar map designating limited areas away from residential developments where solar farms will be able to provide renewable energy without detracting from the values of homes.
I believe in an open and transparent government that listens to its citizens. I will work to ensure that village decisions are made with input from the community and that residents are informed about important issues. I am committed to keeping this website established so residents can access me to discuss concerns. I will also work to support events that encourage community involvement, participation, and entertainment utilizing the beautiful parks Minooka has. By fostering open communication and encouraging public participation, we can build a stronger, more connected Minooka.
Growth is key to Minooka’s prosperity, but it’s important that we manage it thoughtfully to protect our village’s unique charm and small-town feel. I advocate for strategic planning that balances development with the preservation of green spaces, effective traffic management, and the provision of essential services. By prioritizing smart and sustainable growth, we can welcome new residents and businesses while ensuring Minooka remains a welcoming and livable community. I believe we as a Village Board need to prioritize ensuring that traffic coming from CN’s intermodal complex is directed away from Ridge Rd and require all semis to use Rt 6 West towards the Brisbin rd interchange.
